Arrived in Port Louis

We pulled into Port Louis, Mauritius at 1pm today, completing an about 4000 mile trip from Phuket. The past 96 hours saw some of the best sailing we have had, even though the wind dropped off 36 hours out of Mauritius with the oncoming of a frontal system to the area. We were a bit worried whether we would have sufficient diesel to tide us through the low wind period, but luckily this was not a problem.

The mountain backdrop to the city reminded us a bit of Cape Town (on a much larger scale) and Hawaii. We entered the harbor and tied up at the customs dock with the assistance of a very professional coast guard team. Clearing customs, immigration and health services took up most of the afternoon. It was a bit laborious with all the paperwork and bureaucracy, but the officials were very pleasant and, best of all, there was no charge.

The waterfront area is well done, clean and safe. Looks like a big investment - not sure whether there is much of a return on that investment though. Chris and Neil had a steak, egg and chips for dinner, while Mike stayed back on the boat to relax and catch up on so sleep.

Tomorrow we will take a look at hardstand and marina options as to where I would feel most comfortable leaving Galatea for any period of time. If nothing viable presents itself, we (neil and chris) will take Galatea across to Reunion where we have a hardstand option available.

I am falling asleep now, so, that's it for now. All is well on Galatea.

Neil, Chris and Mike.

So,  time to
