3 July 22:00 Riposto, Mt Etna
After getting supplies this morning we hired a car and set off for Mt Etna. Ended up taking the cable car up to a base at 2,500 metres then a 4 wheel drive bus further up before a guided
walk up to the craters, plus 2,800m, noted the most recent lava flow. Small explosions were noted, very cold at that elevation and zero vegetation given the active environment, with the landscape in that area changing with every event, the last one of significance
in November 2023. Good day on the top of Etna, the muffled explosions did make you think, what might be! Heading up Etna in the cable car Most recent lava flows Lots of sulpur smoke and muffled explosions Harsh and very cold environment at around 2,900m Carol and Jude Smoking crater 4wd buses taking people from the top of the cable car to higher elvations and then walking the craters
