Day 70-73 Tue 24- Fri 27 July Oban, Glasgow and Largs
After some days of essential cleaning and washing, and a drink with Richard and Sue Calderwood, Dover friends who now keep their boat Sandpiper in Oben, set off on the 1256 train from Oban to Glasgow. Checked into the Clyde Street Euro Hostel, nothing like as grim as it sounds, with a clean and adequate en suite room, albeit with bed springs which have seen better days. I had a pleasant evening diversion, to see The Angel's Share at the cinema: if you haven't seen it, you should do so, especially if you have any previous experience of Glasgow and its people. Off to meet Cate on her flight from Canada, arriving 0900, then a visit to John and Jill Clough in Skelmorlie (near Largs), including seeing John and David's 93-year old mum Irene. Train back from Wemyss Bay to Glasgow and onwards to Oban, picking up fish and chips en route for the ferry, and that was the home team re-united and ready to continue the adventure. Friday was spent re-provisioning, and a last meal at the Waypoint Grill on Kerrra, settling the bill for 26 days berthing (Sue and Maggs gave us a very generous discount), and checking the tides for the next day. Onwards and upwards!
