We must be nearing British shores because it has
been raining since sunset. At times just drizzle, but sometimes the sort of
downpour which is collected by the bimini and channelled straight down unwary
necks. Were we back in Dorset at Mission Control, this would be the sort of
weather you scowl at as it drums on the conservatory, before going back to
reading the paper, safe in the knowledge that there is absolutely no need to go
outside. Obviously someone needs to steer the boat, so we each trudge out into
the murk every nine hours for a thre hour stint.
That said, we made excellent progress during the
night, buzzing along at seven knots. At one point we surfed down a wave and the
GPS calculated that it was just 71 hours to Poole at such a speed. Since then
the wind has all but died away and we're doing less than three knots. Time for
some donking, I think. All the same, we could arrive on the late evening of the
19th August at this rate. We're now barely 600 miles from the
Lizard.
