The sails are up for the first time in over two months. After a last day of fussing about, wiring and insulting the alternator under my breath, we cast off quickly and steathily, leaving Britain for what should be more than a year. It's a great feeling to be on our way at last. We're low in the water due to all the Fray Bentos pies we've shipped. But the sun is setting over Start Point and there's a steady 15 knots from the NW - ideal for a night sail to l'Aber Wrac'h in N Brittany. If we keep up our current pace of 5 knots we should make landfall at lunchtime tomorrow having crossed the shipping lanes during the night. Oddly enough it's often easier to make out which way a ship is going by night because her lights tell you much more about her than you can make out with binos from a smudge on the horizon.

Sag aloo for supper unless I land a macker first!
