Day 54: Tuesday 28 December 2010. The Sleeping Camel,
Bamako, Mali. N12 37.525 W007 59.278 Distance driven 0 km
This is our sixth night here, the longest we have stopped anywhere on this
trip. It is too comfortable - lots of shade in the villa grounds in which
to camp, a good bar/restaurant, hot showers laundry service and all the toilets
and showers are clean and the plumbing works! Add to that a fabulous
patisserie only 10 minutes walk away and almost anything available within
walking distance - supermarket, ATMs, fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, live
chickens, shoes, clothes and a superb "hardware souk".
I walked across the bridge into town this morning and spent an enjoyable
couple of hours just poking around the souk. All I bought was a tin of
grease and some cord but it was very satisfying After that I shopped for fresh
fruit and veg - all beautifully fresh, green peppers, green beans, onions,
tomatoes, tangerines, papayas, mangoes etc. I even found some drinking yoghurt
which I adore and can never find in the UK.
We really are off tomorrow! |
