here we are working our way up the top end of Queensland coast towards Cape York. It is really odd navigating in amongst the reefs at night with 200m tankers added into the mix! However the lights are good so it should be possible. We of course were not coming this way but the failure of some electronics after our forced stop in New Caledonia for the mainsheet car repair and seawater in the fuel tank, meant we had to pull into Cairns. Now there was a pleasant experience, we had heard lots of tales about how awkward the Aus, Border force were, but on fact they were helpful and respectful in the execution of their duties. plus it was the Carnival Festival so whilst we solved issues we had bands and parades in the evenings to enjoy. I must also commend and thank the OCC port officer John (surname withheld for data security) for all his help with local knowledge, a cheery disposition and a car!
