Morning Folks
Interesting 24 hrs. We started yesterday barrelling along at 6-7.5 knts. occasionally getting a brief but heart lifting 9knts
whilst over night we were going nowhere due to lack of wind. However i get
ahead of myself, in the interim we ha the windex (wind indicating arrow at
the top of the mast) blow away and one of our primary winches for
controlling the genoa sheets, bust a roller bearing case an jammed. I
managed to dismantle it and remove the debris but now it will have to be
treated gently. Unfortunately it was the starboard one which is likely to be
the most used one on passage when we get further on.
then last ight when the wind went to nothing and we had tried all the
reasonable sail configs we thought we would motor for an hour or so
....mistake when we started the engine and thought about it we realised that
it might be silly to burn our precious diesel so early, so we tried to turn
it off only to find that we could not pull the cable easily and when we did,
it would not return back to the normal position so it was engine
incapacitated i think i managed to fix that and we will have to watch it.
it is not all woe though we were visited by dolphins during the night whilst
it was quiet with no engine, wind or waves and Manuela who was off watch
down below could hear the clicks of them through the hull. And yesterday
afternoon we passed a couple of miles from a very spectacular looking
island, real " the land that time forgot" look about it
now we are moving at lose to 4 knots again fighting a current going NW when
we are trying to go ssw/sw but at least we are moving hopefully the wind
will return to the north again (currently SE) and we can head further south
