Sicily to Greece 17-7-2007 - Position Update
Current Position: 37:58.935N 16:52.790E – 171nm still to go to Kefallinia in Greece.
Dear Blog,
I am finally on my way to Greece J The engine overheating problem turned out just to be a faulty temperature indicator.
On 16th July I moved from Reposto to a place called Naxos where I ate far too many ice creams as it was my last chance to enjoy this Italian tradition before heading across the Ionian.
Today I left at 08:00 and had rather an exciting sail across the Messina straight as there was a good wind against the tide. After tacking in and out of the big ships the wind disappeared and has never come returned.
I am currently motoring across the Ionian and trying to conserve my fuel in case there is no wind tomorrow.
There was a lovely red sky this evening, they say red sky at night sailors delight, to me it probably means no wind tomorrow.
There has been another sailing boat in view since I left the Italian coast which must be heading to a similar location.
The Ionian is as flat as a pond.
That’s all for now folks. |
