A full Scottish breakfast at the local café for all the team – excellent
Spent the morning reorganizing the boat and converting back to cruising
Sarah and Nick fly in and we plan to leave at 5pm for an overnight passage to
Orkney
The forecast is for the wind to decline overnight – and it does Sunday 20 June
We arrive at Hoy sound at 8am – and decide not to go in as the viz is
poor and its wind over tide
Also the pilot book says don’t do it……..So 2 hrs to wait
– and we have a perfect plan B…..the Old Man of Hoy
And then on the way back to Hoy Sound – loads of bird life including
comical puffins and beautiful gannets
We arrive in Stromness in the west part of Scarpa Flow……and another
full Scottish breakfast
A walk around town on the blue plaque history trail – to the local snipe
club
Dick and I take a taxi back to the airport stopping on our way at the Ham snipe
club (st marys)….
And the Churchill barrier and Italian chapel…..overlooking the flow
– an amazing setting Results of a survey of snipes at selected
northern snipe clubs ………….
