Two Reunions
Although it is almost time for the next OWR 24-25 to start, we of the OWR 22-23 are still constantly in touch and have had many small and 2 larger reunions to date.
Almost 2 years at sea together creates an attachment that binds us for life. We need to connect to remind us of our remarkable shared experiences, as well as to help us move forwards in the subsequent chapter of our lives. Like it or not, we are joined at the hip, as thick as thieves!
In September, Ross and Gail, (Infinity, Oyster 565), tied the knot and got married in Lake Tahoe, California. Hordes of OWR 22-23 crew members arrived to enjoy the festivities and the glorious California sunshine. 6 boats were represented, Black Lion, Irene IV, Irish Blessing, Seabird, Serendipity, and Temerity.
In November another pack flocked to Ireland for a “Gratitude Party”, hosted by Eddie Tingle and Enda Cullinan followed by 2 shooting/beating gatherings hosted by Louis. Although the sun was not quite as hot as in California, the weather was perfect – with temperatures around 48°F/10°C, light rain on one of the days and clear skies and sunshine on the other two days, it was the best that could have been hoped for.
Eddie very kindly wanted to thank the Goor family for inviting him and many others onboard Irene IV for various parts of the OWR 22-23. He booked a room in the lovely Royal St. George Yacht Club, the club of our childhood. We drank, we dined, we sang, we loved seeing each other again. Thank you so much Eddie!
Shooting and beating followed the next day at Kilruddery, where Louis helps to run the shoot. Just before dark, the slightly damp crews sped from Co. Wicklow to Borris House, Co. Carlow to shower and warm up before sitting down to a formal dinner in the Kavanagh family dining room. Overlooked by the Kavanagh ancestor born without legs and arms another night of revelry ensued.
On day 3, after a good night’s sleep in Borris House, the group divided in two, the shooters and the walkers. Great fun was had by all. Many thanks to Morgan Kavanagh for being a gracious host to the loud and often wayward OWR 22-23 crews!
9 boats were represented at this reunion: Akoya, Black Lion, Intrepid, Irene IV, Irish Blessing, Ruth II, Seabird, Serendipity, and Temerity. The “craic was mighty”!

It seems that every 2 months there is an itch to see each other! |
