We
decided to take Gaviota and sail the 30 miles to the farthest North West point
of Bali – home to the Taman Nasional Bali Barat National Park (the last Bali
tiger was shot here in 1937!). We
anchored off Menjangan (Deer) Island with a stunning view of the volcanoes on
Java. Menjangan is famous for it’s clear
water, diving and snorkelling and of course for it’s wild deer. The clarity of the water did not disappoint
and we did a great ‘drift snorkle’ tied onto the dinghy which shot us over the
reef at speed just managing to climb back into the dinghy before it headed to Java
with us attached. The fish life was
amazing and spotting the Javanese deer on the island definitely made the trip
worthwhile.
