Saturday,
21st May – 20 knot South Easterly blowing and rain! so we got sails
up and headed out into a nasty bumpy sea on a fast broad reach, we had decided
not to go up the tide dependent Hinchinbrook Channel and headed out into the
rain filled squalls. The Coastline resembled
the West Coast of Scotland and the weather matched. Squall after squall passed over soaking us
but with a boat speed of 8-9 knots it was not all bad. Dunk Island as an anchorage in those
conditions was not such a good idea so we headed on further to the safety of
Mourilyan Harbour. The seas were steep
and the wind had increased up to 25 knots as we bumped our way into the tiny
entrance. Mourilyan Harbour has a sugar
wharf and some pile moorings but was pretty deserted so we anchored up in torrential
rain – with the murky sludge coloured water and the thick cloud and rain it was
definitely not your picture postcard tropical dream!!!!
