Arrived in Povoa de Varzim around 18.15 UTC on the
8th June. The journey from Bayona started reasonably with a Westerly wind
promising a good reach South. It was not to be however. The wind soon backed to
the South, leaving us with no choice but to revert to engine power, once again.
By the time we had berthed we were enveloped by torrential rain. The prize
giving and welcome dinner hosted by the Clube Naval Povoense was attended by
some very bedraggled crews.
Wednesday saw a good turnout for a trip to Porto
and a tour of Taylor Fladgate's Port Wine Lodge. Turned out to be much more
interesting than anticipated as the tour guide was obviously extremely
knowledgable and enthusiastic about her subject.
Thursday will be a rest day for us, so that we can
catch up with household chores such as washing and maintainance.
Grant, our crew for the Biscay crossing will return
to the U.K in the evening. It has been his initiation into the
cruising world, but in bringing his particular talents to our journey, he
ensured that we would have the optimum team for a Biscay
crossing.
Friday 11th June should see us on the next leg, to
Figueira da Foz. Start at 06.00hrs UTC. Weather? Forecast to be NW 10-15
knots.
