Well after several days of beautiful weather we currently have a rainy Sunday as we lay at anchor just off a couple of islands at the western end of the Holandes Cays. Steve and Connie from Better Days are beside us and another catamaran appeared on the other side of us sometime during the night. We left the lovely anchorage in the Coco Banderas Cays yesterday morning with Better Days and headed across to a little island called Gorgidup to do some snorkelling. Steve and I snorkelled two reefs and although we located a few lobster returned empty handed. Luckily the Kuna are better at it as we bought 3 lobster from them just as we were leaving to head across to the Holandes. Managed to get the genoa out for a little while but what little wind there was soon died out a and it was back to motoring. The seas are like a millpond, the only waves are created by the occasional power boat that goes past. The fishing has improved a little bit, Sue caught a pan sized reefie off the back of the boat on our last evening in Coco Banderas and then a few minutes later hooked a 7 foot shark which we brought to the surface and cut free pretty quick. She then followed this up yesterday afternoon by hooking something which nearly pulled her overboard and caused some minor injuries from line burn as it sped off into the distance before breaking the line on the hand reel. Probably just as well although we would like to know what it was. We had Connie and Steve over for a dinner of reef fish last night and then lay on the trampoline watching the stars for an hour. The water pressure pump for our fresh water system died yesterday afternoon just as we were having a shower but fortunately we had a spare on board thanks to the previous owner so all is good. Hopefully this rain will clear up soon as we want to snorkel the reef which is between us and the island and then have a wander around on the dirt for a while. Have attached a photo of a Kuna hut being constructed on an island in the East Lemmon Cays.
