We left Maddalena on Sunday morning having had a
super meal at a local pizza/cafe Garibaldi in ther main square. I had the best
choice - the anti-pasta of seafood which turned out to be huge and as
recommended by the waiter I did not need a pizza after it! Sunday saw us off to
the south passing Porto Cervo and then out past the steep headland of Capo
Figari, through the islands of Tavolara, Piana and Molara round the tip of Capo
Coda Cavallo and into a delightful bay called Porto Brandinghi. Here we anchored
swam, relaxed ate plenty and generally chilled after our sojurn in the bustle of
Maddalena. It was an excellent anchorage.
Monday 29th June
Motored back to Isloa Tavolara where we anchored
near to the small landing jetty in crystal clear water. Plenty of swimming as
well as an explore ashore to walk along the beach - full of day trippers brought
by local ferries. In the evening all was quiet apart from the few residents
(there appeared to be some holiday apartments - about 4!) and several yachts
anchored like us for the night. The following morning after a pre-breakfast swim
we headed back to Olbia for Bert and Gerry's last night.
Olbia
Tuesday 30th - we discovered a laundry
facility so Rob and I set off with the washing while B and G saught a
taxi to get them to the airport in the morning. We also did a big supply
shop at the local supermarket and Rob pushed the trolley back to the boat! later
we had a wander round the city which was unremarkable really aprt from the odd
18th century building. We did however find a reasonable restaurant for a last
meal which was very good. Bert and Gerry left at 0730 and the taxi did arrive on
time much to their relief. We headed off to the laundry to get the washing,
stopped on the way back to pick up some fresh bread and then we headed out of
the port back to Isola Tavolara for lunch, swim and a snooze before our journey
across to mainland Italy. We saw the easy jet plane cross overhead around 1015
so new our friends were on their way home.
We had a super time with them and hope they will
come to see us again.
