a new adventure begins

07/05/09 Lagos We are leaving our winter berth today and have said our
farewells to all our new friends met while living aboard over the winter It’s sad but a new year of sailing and exploring start
today! We took the car home last month and had a super drive back
through Portugal and N.W Spain plenty of snow on the mountains to the west of
Santander which was quite a surprise. Stopped for lunch in Salamanca on the
advice of my niece Joanna who did a term at the university. It was worth the
short detour just to sit in the Plaza Major and eat our sarnies! The ferry crossing was smooth and although we didn’t
see any whales others did, we did enjoy sitting out on deck 11 in the warm
sunshine as we cruised across Biscay and round Ushant. Our two weeks at home passed in a flash – so many
people to see, things to buy for the boat and ‘jobs’ to do in the
house and garden – we’ve hardly had time to draw breath. Many thanks to all our friends and family whose hospitality
has been generous to the extreme! We had a good flight back and managed to get
the fresh food supplies in the late afternoon so we would be all set for the
off today. Our last night in Lagos was spent in Lazy Jacks, (our
favourite bar for those of you back home) consuming the happy hour supper and a
pint! So Gibraltar here we come hoping to get to the Balearics by
the 24th of May to coincide with my sister’s trip to her Villa
during the school Whitsun holiday. We might just meet up with Kishorn and
China Blue if they are still there but we think that Grand Slam will have
departed for Sicily by then. While at home we celebrated Rob’s mums 75th
birthday and our son’s 21st. Will post some pictures in due
course. Next blog somewhere east in a few days! Jacky and Rob I
