I was woken up by the sound of the engine, I quickly got dressed and I then cleaned my teeth. Everyone was now awake, I was asked to go down stairs and bring the breakfast things up. Catrin told me to bring up the chocolate cornflakes, which we got for when we where sailing. Once everything was upstairs we began to eat breakfast, we where doing a sixty mile trip to Crotone. The sky was blue and there was a good breeze for sailing, we put up the main and the genoa and we began sail, we where doing eight point five knots. Suddenly Mummy and Daddy began to reverse, there was something caught around the propeller! We carried on motoring though.

We soon stopped sailing and we motored along as we where having lunch, we kept the genoa up though as there was no wind. After lunch there was a sudden flash of lightning, and the wind picked up and the wind began to gust thirty five knots. It was a small storm, in the distance we could see the gas rigs, men drill small holes in the sea bed and from those holes comes gas and oil. They suck up gas and oil from the sea bed using a long pipe. They sometimes heat the oil at different temperatures, at one temperature they can make petrol, at another they can make diesel or other oil products. If they didn’t have the pipe which sucks the oil and gas from the ground, the oil and gas would not go to the gas rigs instead the oil would pollute the sea.

We all had to put our coats on and stay away from the metal winches. When we arrived at Crotone there was a grass fire going on, there was smoke everywhere, though we did manage to moor somewhere where there was no smoke. When we had moored up we washed the boat down, this was nice because it was very hot and the water was cold. Crotone is a city, with a lot of fish markets and small shops. The city even has some roman remains, they are protected very well and if someone climbs onto a fence a man will yell through a megaphone “Attention, do not climb on the fences!” Even though the city has history and good beaches Crotone is not a touristy place, it is all mainly locals. Daddy then attached the go-pro onto its stick long and he used it to see what was caught around the propeller. It was a plastic bag! Daddy fiddled with the propeller and he managed to free the propeller. After all this drama we walked to the small marina office and we checked in.

When we had checked in we went back to the boat and we then went into the town, we decided to hire a car which we would pick up tomorrow, we would use it to drive to the vineyards (where they make wine from grapes). When we got back to the boat we had our tea and we then went to bed as we would need to wake up early tomorrow.
