Today at nine o’clock in the morning, we set sail to a place called Bahia de Fornells. Whilst we where motoring through the marina Harry and I had to untie the fenders from the side of the boat and we then had to put the fenders away into their locker at the bow. When Harry and I had done the fenders Harry decided to go fishing of the back of the boat (trolling). Whilst we were sailing Daddy put some music on whilst Mummy sailed the boat. When Daddy had come back up stairs and he had put some music on Catrin and I made small houses with our coats whilst Harry put his fishing rod into his new rod holder and he then walked to the front of the cockpit and then he started to play with Catrin and I. As soon as Catrin and I got bored of playing houses Catrin asked to steer the boat with Daddy. So Daddy unclipped Catrin and clipped her on to the back of the boat and Catrin then started to steer the boat! When Catrin had steered the boat with Daddy I started to steer the boat, I had to keep the bow inline with the land that I could see in the distance. When we where almost at the anchorage in Fornells we had our lunch, we had to eat really quickly because we needed to turn and when we turn the boat heals. Luckily we ate our lunch quite quickly and when the boat did turn all the plates, knives and forks where safely packed away in the kitchen sink.

When we had arrived at the anchorage in Fornells Harry, Catrin and I went down stairs and played with Harry’s Lego minecraft set. When we had anchored and we had tidied up and we had got the boat ship shape I noticed that we had anchored near an new shipwreck. I also noticed that this place was different to a lot of the places we have been to because the Cala is a big nature reserve also the land is just like the land at home. We came into the cala  whilst I to get away from the wind, right now the wind is gusting thirty knots!!! When I had noticed the shipwreck we all went down stairs and we then had our tea, Spaghetti bolognaise surprise. After are tea we all went to bed because we all had a late night last night, as a man on a boat near us was playing really load music.

Fornells fact file:
The fishing village of Fornells was used in 1798 as the secondary invasion ports during the first British expedition
in 1789. They had intended to land in Fornells, but a headwind prevented this so the first landing took place at Addaya.
When the wind changed the following day Commodore Duckworth captured Fornells.

Seiches:
Under certain Meteorological conditions usually when a depression and a spring tied coincide
a phenomenon known as a seiche occurs, causing the sea level to rise and fall by as much as 1.5m
every 10 or 15 minutes, an oscillation which may continue for several days. The local fishermen normally
give a warning when they think that there is going to be a seiche. These can be really dangerous for us if we are in a shallow harbour we could run aground.
The seiches were predicted for yesterday and therefore we needed to get out of Ciudadela as it was quite shallow where we were moored. In the past this phenomenon has caused a lot of damage to sailing yachts. Ciudadela is particularly prone to this.
