Last night we passed through the Straights of Gibraltar, we decided to go
through the shipping lanes, with the super-tankers rather than around the
outside to avoid the tuna nets. Well, that didn't work... The fixed tuna
nets have now been banned as they catch dolphins etc, so the fisherman are
out at night with temporary nets, in the entrance way to the shipping lanes,
it is like Russian roulette, with the guys trying to fish and the
super-tanker steaming through at 14 Knots, we heard cries over the radio,
'please captain don't runner over my nets' Julius summed it up rather well,
it like standing on a motorway and hoping not to get run over..
We had to weave are way through on the Atlantic side, very nearly catching
up with one net, so we had quite a night last night and all a little tired.
On the upside a large pod of breaching False Killer Whales joined as we said
farewell to the Atlantic.
We are now into the Med sailing well with the Yankee poled out to port.
Apparently yesterday log did not get out, we did resend yesterday late
afternoon
