A blistering start out of the blocks with the wind between the islands
arriving on our starboard stern the precise time as anticipated. We poled
out the Genoa to starboard and made some good progress goose-winging
throughout the day. It was been a little cooler than expected with a gradual
addition of warm clothing as the evening set in and the watches began. We
had optimistically hoped to continue cracking through the miles at over 7
knots but as we moved away from land the island effect on the wind
diminished and we were forced to head a little more North than we predicted.
At first light this morning we changed the sail plan and are now heading
further South back towards our rhum line. We moved the pole and Genoa to
port and are now ticking along at a good pace in a not too uncomfortable
sea. The empire builders, as Barton describes them, are back on and the
first shower has been taken by Sheena which has put pressure on the chaps to
clean up, an operation not planned for at least another few days.
