We arrived in Salvador on the morning of the 6th. Because of the security situation in Salvador we decided to slow right down for the last night, killing some time to get to the marina at dawn. Coming up to the city is an amazing sight, huge skyscrapers mixed with broken down colonial building dot the waterfront. The street lights were still on as we made our way to the marina we had chosen to spend time in.

The city is getting ready for the annual carnival, with ribbons and huge paper statues filling every street. Music is blaring from every corner and the sheets of chipboard are going up along the shop fronts to protect windows from the tens of thousands of revellers that will descend in to Salvador over the next few days.
