We fuelled up in Tahiti and as Moorea had been closed due to an influx of box jelly fish (seriously nasty stinging things) we headed straight for Huahine, 90 miles away. The wind didn’t materialize, which seems to be very typical of the Pacific at the moment, so we motored in a huge swell all the way. Having had no sleep at all by the morning we entered the reef and found a flat anchorage where we could spend the day kipping and swimming.

The next day we headed off down to the south of the island, all inside the reef that rings these islands, to find a beautiful anchorage where we launched the paddle boards. Ollie found a wave in the southern pass so was happy for a few hours while we explored the shoreline. It’s a beautiful island with some very expensive, well looked after property. The Caribbean looks scruffy in comparison to the South Pacific, even the poorest neighbourhoods seem to be well kept here. The French give the islands 1.4 Billion euros annually, which must help.
