The excitement is building as the miles tick down. With ‘just’ 650 miles to go the chat has moved onto what goes on the Marquesas. The cruising guides although updated are still pencil drawings and brief descriptions including treasures such as “in the head of the bay it is shallow, with swimming ill advised due to the amount of enormous sharks that congregate there”. Sounds like some great snorkelling is to be had, just don’t go down clutching a dead fish!

We also have a small wager on our arrival time. It’s looking like Pietro has nailed it at the moment, with the rest of us coming in slightly later than his prediction. Still, the wind could still drop. It’s looking like the 19th when we’ll arrive, probably late at night but the anchorage doesn’t look too tricky to get into. That will make the crossing 17 days which is reasonably quick considering the 3000 miles.

Attached are some photos various of the happy crew of Ghost; Clare making Banana bread from the last, very black bananas, Ollie watching another DVD, Our narcoleptic Italian,Pietro taking a snooze
before another meal, and yours truly doing the maths for a sun sight I’d taken in the morning.
