This blog ,written by Tony concerns the the subject of the making and breaking of Bread.

When we arrived in Gran Canaria Don was already making key decisions. One of which was the decision on whether or not to buy a bread maker. After much discussion and investigation off we all went to Courte de Inglese where Don opted for the 89 euro Kenwood. An appropriate home and method of stowage was soon found. After a few minor challenges finding the key ingredients of bread flour, yeast and dried milk we were in business.

The last week of bread making has been interesting!!! After key questions such as:  Where are we? Is there any wind? and what do shall we try doing differently with the sails today? The other main question of the day is “How is the bread today? Here is the summary of our progress. On Monday we concluded that the electronic scales don’t work at sea. Oops!! It was Don’s turn to do the bread so he did a calculation on how many cups constituted 500 grams. "Two" was not the correct answer. (Correct answer was Four as any woman would have told him, unfortunately Don consulted Tony on the matter). The result was Dons bread was rather small and hard. On Tuesday it was David’s turn he also consulted Tony on the Bread making. The result was that the butter was left in the microwave and never did find it’s way into the bread. Dave’s bread was turned out rather like Don’s. On Wednesday it was Reeces turn. Reece made Olive bread. It was very good!! When asked what the secret of his success was? Reece said “ I follow the recipe exactly and never consult Tony. Jane generally makes very good bread too. She never takes any notice of what Tony says either. Having said that ,success has rather gone to her head and today she has been making walnut bread (see picture ) which will be useful if we need another anchor.
