Still in Antigua... but almost ready to go

Friday 25th March – Antigua

A lot has happened since the last entry… On Wednesday we went to Catherine’s Café (another great recommendation from brother Ryan) and were lucky enough to have not only a very special meal but also be there on Jazz night. The band was greatly appreciated by the jazz lovers at the table and Annie even let out a few hoots and woooows. I was mesmerized by the lead singer/pianist/guitarists’ weird facial expressions. He looked as if he was chewing on 5 tablespoons of very sticky peanut butter in slow motion.

The work on the boat has been coming along slightly faster and a lot of the big problems seem like they’ll be finished on time for tomorrows sail. Some of the work as even improved the quality of living on board. The generator is running a lot smoother and quieter than before, the davits have been swapped so they are easier to operate and also are a lot quieter. The leak in the front cabin was found and repaired so things won’t get wet anymore.

All in all I think we’ll be ready to go in the morning.

I also managed to pass my Day skipper Theory course so I’m going to try my hand at navigating the next few legs of the trip. It’s all much easier with the chart plotter than with the charts and pencil technique we learnt to use in the classroom. I got a few beers on the way home to celebrate. Oh… and I even managed to chat to Lea today on Skype at lunch time in the Mad Mongoose (crazy little bar with a webcam so you can check to see whose there before you go). All in all a good few days.
