Denarau to Blue Lagoon (24th June)

Mustang Sally Cruising
Mark Lawrence & Dianne Jackson
Mon 23 Jul 2018 21:09
The last ten days or so have been spent travelling through the Manamuca and Yasawa Islands stopping at a few favourites and visiting a couple of new ones
It has been almost two years since we travelled through the Western Islands of Fiji and nice to be back.
Our current position is anchored off Nanuya Resort up in the Blue Lagoon area at 16:56.62S 177:22.02E

We finished off our provisioning in at Nadi with a stop at the market and then to South Pacific Meats while Mark was finishing off the installation of the wind generator which seems to be working a treat although we haven’t had a lot of windy weather to put it through it paces.

First stop was out at Musket Cove where we spent a few nights.  We went for a number of walks around the island and enjoyed many scenic views.
We stopped in at the beach bar for one or two sundowner’s of an evening and I enjoyed a couple of the morning yoga classes run by Leanne from Songlines.
John and Leanne also run the Down Under Rallies and we have just signed up to do the Go West Rally for our trip back to Bundaberg from Vanuatu later this season.
Although we have now gone through the inwards clearance procedures into Australia a few times now the rally is great value and they are doing a great job promoting cruising boats to come to Australia so why wouldn’t we join in.  We may also be joined by a fellow Safety Beach SC yacht Whiskers who did the Go East Rally from the Gold Coast to New Caledonia and may also be doing the Go West Rally to get home!

As the weather was sooooooo calm we spent a day out on the outer reef which was lovely.  The water in the shallows is an amazing shade of blues and we also got to see plenty of underwater life including a leopard shark that decided to check out our anchor on arrival, a white tip reef shark, moray eel and many other reef fishies.

After leaving Musket Cove we next anchored off the Liku Liku resort which is rather exclusive but makes for a lovely nights stopover.

On the 21st July we headed off early from LikuLiku as we have a big day of around 40NM to get us up into the southern parts of the Yasawa Islands.  We were hoping to stop in and see the Manta’s at Manta Ray but the anchorage was rather busy so back peddled a bit and spent the night anchored in the Mocelutu Pass just to the south which made for a good nights anchorage although the current runs quite strong through the pass which meant the boat was pointing in various directions through the night.  We hopefully will get to stop in for a visit to see the Manta’s on our way south in a couple of weeks time.

The 22nd we made it up to Natevulo Bay which we have stayed at many a time and had a lovely walk along the long white sandy beach and stopped in for a much needed beverage at the local resort.

Yesterday we dodged and weaved through a bit of coral and eventually made our way to our current position.
There are plenty of boats in the anchorage that we know including Fusio so had to join them when they headed over for a bit of kiting especially as the winds are forecast to be light again for the next few days.

Miss Amanda has just arranged for her departure from Mustang Sally.  She was hoping to catch the sea plane out as did Leapy Lynda two years ago but unfortunately all the flights are full so she will be leaving us tomorrow via the Yasawa Flyer.

We are heading out this morning for a walk around to Lo’s tea house this morning and then in for a final dinner ashore at the resort tonight – yummy!
