We finally got splashed down this morning (Saturday 15th April) so have moved out of the cabin and back onto the boat so this will be our first night aboard which may not seem that exciting to some but we are happy about it.

All the “pit” jobs were done which included re-instating most of the stuff that we took off like sails, bimini’s, dinghy etc. and an awful lot of polishing and product

After all the PIT jobs were completed we got lifted out of the pit and put onto the hard stand or props to give the bottom a clean and antifoul which, as is the norm, also meant that we turned into Smurfs for a day or to.

This morning we were first off the rank to get splashed down and were very happy when the diesel started up without even a splutter and the bilges are still dry – you are never quite sure what is going to happen when you have been out of the water for six months.

We expect to be at Vuda marina for probably another week as there are still a few jobs to do but then are looking to head over to Musket Cove where we hope to get a little better at Kite Boarding and also keep an eye on the weather.

This season the hope is to get over to Tonga and / or Samoa but we are looking for some pretty special weather to get there, especially Tonga which is around 500NM to the South East of Fiji which means it is directly upwind in the prevailing trade winds which we DO NOT DO.  We have heard that it may be possible to get over there early in the season so fingers crossed.  If that doesn’t work then we will aim for Samoa which is a bit easier as that is around 600NM North East so a bit more favourable.  Either way due to the customs requirements we must take the boat out of Fiji this season as we are only allowed to leave her here for a maximum of 18months and would rather tackle it earlier rather than later as also want to spend more time on the eastern side of Fiji which is more readily accessible when returning from the East.
