The wind has started to arrive at last 14 to 18knts
from the North we are doing 6.5 to 7.5 knts perhaps a little more sometimes.The
trades are not truly established yet but it is a start.
Last night was time for reflection on saving power
by turning off instruments that were not needed (its a bit like turning off
lights at home,every little helps) and by using the Hydrovane that's our wind
pilot.At the moment we are trying out the tiller pilot ,which is the electrical
auto pilot attached to the wind pilot to check out its performance and energy
consumption,soon we will revert to the wind pilot on its own.
Yesterday was a good day,mind you every day you
wake up is a good day in my books.We transferred our spare diesel from the cans
to the tank while the sea was relatively flat,you have no idea how difficult it
can be to get fuel to go in a funnel when the boat is rolling about unless
you've done it.Anyway it took three of us,guess who was holding the funnel moi
of course while Alan and Chris did the pouring.
We also caught a Yellow fin Tuna this was mainly
due to some advice from one of the other boat to change the colour of our lure
(for the non fisherman that is the plastic bait with the hook in it) so
fisherman Pete made up another trace (that's the line that attaches to the lure
) and put on a white Muppet (plastic squid) Hey presto within an hour we caught
a beautiful fish,it was a good job it was only a small one 15 " or so it took
enough to get the gaff hook into it,in fact it jumped out of the bucket
twice.
Beheaded gutted washed and cooked in a little wine
it was delicious.
We will see what today brings but as always the
most important decision may well be 'what shall we have for
dinner'
