Hello everybody tomorrow we start our trip across the Atlantic and guess what there's no wind and then its likely to be on the nose, what joy.

The preparations have been quite extensive ,we started with a list of 15 jobs which then became a different list of 15 jobs the list doesn't get any shorter its just different. Some take a few minutes others a few days.On the way down here from Gibraltar we decided to try out the Wind Pilot only for it to start coming loose from the back of the boat, its quite important that it stays with the boat but it took us a little while to secure it properly with longer bolts and GRP.Sails,lines,computers,weatherforcasts,e-mails,watermakers,generators,towgen,gearbox,all needed checking.

In the quality of the installation dictates the trouble free operation but everything needs checking and maintaining to try to ensure no surprises.

It is now 10.30 we are due to leave at 11,it is now very warm but no wind so we will motor the fist day.

Moving away from the chores the island is surprising in many respects particularly in regard of one engineer who was responsible for the brilliant use of the Lava caves and entrances into Hotels ,Restaurants and generally creating very imaginative passages and walkways into the underground caverns created by the lava flows. From being at first sight a kiss me quick island you soon learn to appreciate that this is a place of sustainable development with a lot of style and charm ,there is not the rampant development that you see in other islands and coasts.
