We are now 185nm from the Galapagos ,this is where the diversity of the fauna and wildlife helped Darwin to formulate his ideas on the Origin of the Species .It was also where Russell Crowe caught up with the Black Pearl in Master and Commander.

We have now been on passage 7 days since leaving Panama firstly stopping in the Las Perlas islands until the 7th Feb then on transit to the Galapagos we areall now getting a little weary of having the wind always on our nose and having to motor most of the way.

We have had our moments fishing but the big ones have got away the last this morning after spending an hour getting this 4ft Dorado to within 6ft of the boat the Lure slipped and off it went, our mouths were at the watering stage yet again. We still have fish in the freezer.

Today is like yesterday a do nothing day I think we are all tired from the constant noise of the engine and the noise the boat makes motoring into a head sea especially at night,my cabin in the forepeak is uncomfortable in these conditions and I am sometimes bounced around in fact last night I turned over with no effort as the boat hit a wave and lifted me clear of the bed.

The Galapagos is the most enchanting place I have ever seen with red and blue crabs, blue footed booby's who look as though they are wearing light blue wellies, pelicans standing by the side of the road, and a whole host of sea creatures from hammer head sharks, whale sharks, manta rays and all manner of brightly coloured fish of all sizes and shapes it truly is a nautical wonderland. So with that we must consol ourselves that the journey is worthwhile.

When sailing as opposed to motoring you are generally occupied trimming the sails and other bits and pieces motoring is boring and noisy but with only 182nm to go we can make it in good spirits, landfall always lifts the spirit of the crew in eager anticipation of the thrills that await them and a new place to explore
