The 1st leg now done 52 hours straight sail from
Corfu to Sciliy.
Crew on board was Mark (me) ,Richard ( tricky
dicky) and Duncan.
Rounded the tip of Corfu at 2.00 pm on the 22
August with very light winds motorsailed till 4 pm when the afternoon breeze
picked up enough to manage a sail
Hydrovane took us on 247 deegrees direct to our
destination Catania where we meeting 2 more crew Marco (baggy) and
Greg
Managed about 5 hours sailing before the wind
dropped and back came on the engine
After a very succesfull evening meal cooked by
tricky of roast chicken,roast potatoes and corn on the cob we settled into night
watch
The plan was to do 2 hour watchs single handed
giving the other crew 4 hours rest and so it was
I was on the dog watch between 2-4 am picked via a
cut of the cards I always was crap at cards lol
Having been under motor since 9 pm cut the engine
sails out and ghosted along in the dark hydrovane working well.
All in all a very good night sail for our 1st night
shooting stars a plenty
Next day dawned with watch being done by tricky
then duncan managed a few hours kip
No wind this day thou so motorsailed at 6.5 kts to
cantania late afternoon it was decided to go for a swim mid ocean we had good
depth 2000 m which was a little spooky
Afterwards a quick wash of the decks bought 30-40
fish around the boat we decided to try our luck with the fishing and sure enough
40 mins later we pulled in 10-12 kilo tuna
Expertly despatched by Rick it was tuna
for eve meal cooked by Duncan we had sushi 1st marinated with lime,garlic
and ginger beautiful
Then pan seared the steaks went down a
treat
Night watch was very calm with near flat seas we
motorsailed to Catania with dawn showing etna a treat with some puffs from the
summit
Arriving in port to refuel at 11
am
