33:53.2S 018:25.2E Cape Town pt2 - post Christmas update

So another year over and a year since we set sail (Jan 6th 2013) from Antigua wondering what a world sail would be like, both excited and only slightly apprehensive (possibly more about living without PDS than anything else). A year on and it’s bloody great, so many places, many new friends, adventures and experiences and PDS is doing well without us – all good.
Back in Cape town for a week or so to get ready for the next trip across the Atlantic of over 3500nm, save for a stopover in St Helena, but no rush and most of the jobs have been sorted, thanks to Nelius and a range of sub-contractors. So instead decided to have a proper look around and also stay in nice boutique hotel in Camps Bay (Trish’s Christmas Prezzy). Weather a bit overcast so started with a drive down near the cape to a coastal toll road on the side of the mountain there and followed by a nice meal in a posh restaurant up the hill in Camps bay.
Following day we decided to do a half day wine tasting tour (obligatory when in and around Cape Town). So got picked up in a mini coach together with 8 others and off to the Stellenbosch region to a couple of vineyards – 4 glasses of wine in both places, cheese (not for me) and a quick drive around Stellenbosch and we were all having a great time, loads of banter, and some very nice wines – so stocked up with a few cases as ain’t gunna get anything of this quality at this price anywhere else!!
Back at the hotel weather started to cheer-up, so ate in Camps Bay at a very nice front restaurant – just love Camps Bay. Next day decided to drive around the Cape to Simons Town (but not to the point), and on the way stop off wherever took the fancy….. so lunch at another vineyard and more wine tasting and a nice meat platter to go with it, don’t mind of we do, and what a find, Cape point vineyard, fantastic top quality wine, main Sauv Blanc, even better, so again a few cases later and were sorted again. Good trip around the cape area and slow drive back to Camps Bay and onwards back to the V&A.
Was going to leave on the Sunday, so checked out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday came and went, and so did Monday and we finally left on Tuesday afternoon, no stress, completely relaxed and looking forward to getting back on the sea again after more than a month.
Next Stop St Helena in the middle of the southern Atlantic, some 1650nm away, which is we’re we almost are today (Thrusday 23rd Jan).
Next Blog likely to be from Salvador in SA, a further 1950nm / 12-14 day sail from St Helena, so take care all and blog you soon (honest)
Lots of Luv, Paul & Trish
