Just west of Portimao is an area of lagoons and
salt marshes within a sandbar. The grapevine told me that there is a good
footpath starting from the station that offers interesting birdwatching. I
cycled over there yesterday, saving the (negligible) train fare and getting some
much-needed exercise. Portuguese dogs generally ignore pedestrians but chase
cyclists. so I had to pass the cottages by the station at top speed. My pursuers
decided that runing more than 20 metres was hard work and returned to continue
