After a very rocky night and fitful sleep all round, we had an early start, setting out into a misty and cold sea, but not the fog of the previous few days.

We sailed most of the day, with much better winds.

The highlight was the rounding oc Cabo Sao Vicente, previously thought to be the end of the world. As we came round the sea turned blue, the winds increased to over 20 kn and we achieved more than 10 kn. A record so far. We reefed neatly in the lee of the shore and then carried on at a fair lick. Fair winds stayed with us and 8-9 kn cut down our journey time a lot, so we arrived in Portimao on the Rio Arade in good time and anchor a little way up the river.

Row across to the quayside restaurant and enjoy freshly caught and grilled red snapper, with white, rose and red wine. A very popular place with people waiting on the pavement for free tables.

A good day.
