Getting ready

Getting ready to leave and working hard.

We had a big storm here Tuesday and Wednesday with high winds and lots of spray over the harbour wall. It has calmed down today and winds look good for us to leave on Sunday 30th or Monday 31st. It should take 16 – 18 days to Grenada, weather willing.

The crew of Lyster and Sheena will be up to full strength when Julius and Barton Wild arrive tomorrow, Friday. Julius and Lyster are match-fit after sailing the first leg from the UK to the Canaries. Bart and Sheena may be a bit peaky for the first day or so.

The skipper is busy fixing things and pulling everything out of lockers in order to put them back in just a very slightly different order. The galley is pretty much shipshape, only lacking the fresh stuff to be bought at the last minute.

Puerto Mogan is a bit of a tourist destination and not exactly the gastro capital of Gran Canaria (we hope), but it’s secure and everything works, more or less. We have been watching with interest the preparations of a 14-person crew of a rowing boat bound for Barbados, also leaving Sunday or Monday. Very glad we’re not on that.....
