triple surprise Fiona some how transformed in to a Sailor overnight and was
all up for getting the spinnaker out on Saturday afternoon, even when the
boat was tilting at 45 degrees she was happy sitting back behind the helm
making small sail adjustments to gain just that fraction of additional
speed, it may have been the heat that finally did the trick. The other
surprise was the visit from the ice-cream man in a boat. So yes the ice
cream man in a boat was classic, this guy takes the entrepreneur award in my
book cruising around his captive audience this character and his better half
the duo of ice cream sellers cruised around Osborne bay and creamed in the
cash while we sat patiently waiting our turn after waving frantically at the
poor bloke while whistles and shouts came from all round. Once he arrived I
ordered pasticcio and Fiona went for the standard vanilla with flake. Well
how could you not. After about 3 or 4 seconds the ice-cream had melted and
we were both very satisfied how could we not be after paying marine prices?
Ha ha cream it up. I must admit until now I thought being ripped off really
badly was due to the stigma of 'marine' being attached to it only went as
far as the boating shops and marinas but you have to give it to them they
are on to something.
Saturday evening Fiona and I cruised into the Cowes and moored up next to
the Folly Inn four deep we were and woke to the annoying sound of someone's
shore line rubbing on our stern as the tide made its change. Being the
closest to the companion way it was me who had to emerge at 6 AM to see what
was keeping us awake. Stupid ropes they should make the things out of
Teflon, actually not a bad idea maybe I will go into business. The end of
the weekend was a BBQ and a slow sail home while enjoying the long awaited
weather. A couple of swims were also called for, Fiona's was voluntary while
I was sort of forced to dive in the water after Pillow Slip (Our Tender) she
got the better of me while I released her line at Anchor. Quite refreshing
all the same.
When we did come into the bay we sailed onto our anchorage and then once we
were ready to go we sailed off so pretty happy with doing that being our
first time and all especially around so many other boats. You would be
surprised how many time you reach for the start engine button when it gets
really busy or you do come into port or an anchorage. We are both still
learning and getting better every week that we go out and practice.
I also did my usual chores onboard Saturday morning before we left, this
week was fitting a new water pump to the engine for the fresh water system
and a accumulator onto the hot water side of the hot water service just so
Fi can have extra long and hot showers, 60 second instead or 55. Finally the
BBQ, it had to be done, we got rid of the man over board life ring and put a
BBQ in its place. I figure we only need one life ring anyhow, there are only
going to be the two of us so when will we get to use 2 at once?. Exactly go
the BBQ.
