We slipped our ropes from our mooring on the 13thth October at 10:26AM and headed off to Barbate 36:10.07N 5:55.05W

We were out of Cadiz, thank god I felt as though we could have been trapped there forever, a bit like a couple of the Ria’s we ended up staying too long in the North of Spain.

It was a nice day and the wind was light but enough to fly the kite.  It was also the first time we had come into so strong tidal currents and even though we were traveling at 5 Knots we were only making 3 over ground. As we cruised down the coast I headed for a fishing port so we could anchor up for the night, however after a discussion with the crew we decided to carry on in the evening and make our way into Barbate. We arrived in at 8pm and to more evidence of the storm that hit with many sails torn and still flapping in the wind.

It was also another half day under motor, the whole motoring thing was really beginning to give Fi and I a real pain in the back side.

Special comments by Fiona:  It was a good feeling to be out on the water again, especially as it was a calm and settled day with plenty of sunshine.  Our original destination of Peurto De Conil, approx 20 NM north of Barbate, but it did not strike me as a good place to stay for the night.  There was no-where to anchor and further in the mariner was too shallow for us.  Our only option was to moor up alongside fishing boats, which is fine if it were only the one but we were 5 deep and the thought of being woken up at 2am or whatever god forsaken time they head out to sea, did not float my boat! Ha.  Ben thought it would be fine to moor up alongside 5 stinky fishing boats and after discussing it, ok, I was in tears (my emotional state must have been due to lack of sleep from partying the days prior) we slipped our ropes and headed back out to sea to reach a pleasant mariner in Barbate.  Needless to say that I was happy with this option!
