                | ‘32.22.75N 64.40.09W’ True to form we arrived in the middle of the night, crossing the finish
line at 01:26:07 local time (05:26:07 UK).  After periods of light or no
wind we had a fantastic reach all the way in, just a little tight on the wind at
the end.  Bermuda Radio were fabulous at tracking us, guiding us through
the channel through the reef into Powder Bay, where we had to anchor ‘in
quarantine’ until customs opened at 8.00am this morning.  We sat on deck,
once anchored, into the early hours with a welcome glass (or two) of bubbly. We
motored over to customs first thing this morning to be met by Mia, from World
Cruising. Customs was the most efficient we have had but one of the forms we had
to fill in had some interesting questions – 1. Has there been on board during
the voyage any case or suspected case of plague, cholera, yellow fever or typhus fever? 2. Has plague occurred or been suspected
amongst the rats or mice on board during the voyage or has there been an unusual
mortality amongst them? 3. Has any person died on board during the voyage
otherwise than as a result of accident? The form had to be signed by the ship’s
surgeon!  Fortunately, we were able to answer ‘no’ to each, and Brian
signed it! We kept a photocopy of the form! Trevor and Alison arrived shortly
after we were berthed in St George's Dinghy Club arriving with bags of goodies.
We are all now going to have a sleep (Brian is already asleep!) before the
welcome party this evening.  Leg to Horta, Azores starts on 14th
May. |
