Hi. The winds abated a little at last and we headed
east from Salinas yesterday. It was still a long morning of heavy motoring
into the wind and seas, with a bit of tacking into the wind when it hit 20
kts for an hour or so, though not nearly as bad as it was during our earlier
attempt. Once "round the corner" into Santo Domingo bay, the wind veered to
the SE so we were able to sail (albeit close-hauled) for the rest of the
way into Santo Domingo. The 45 miles took us 11.5 hours Not a
record.
The marina here is right in the centre of the city,
close to the main docks. Not very pretty, but also close to the old town
and very well protected. There is a very good Italian restaurant nearby, so we
treated ourselves to a seafood pasta dinner last night and a wee glass of tinto
or 2.
We will stay here for a few days until we see
reasonable weather for our 3 day trip down to Curacao, where we will end our
sailing season for this year.
Will try to update this blogg when we depart and
then daily for the trip south.
Best Wishes,
John & Georgina
