Strict instructions from Skipper David to make this funny. Well! We were a good 30 miles off the coast on Monday when we realised, annoyingly, the batteries were just not holding a charge. After a few good years of charter, it wasn’t too surprising that time had taken its toll on them. Cap’n Dave made a decision to turn back to Tortola and have SSL refitted with new ones.

Without good batteries we would have had to turn the engine on frequently just to charge them. Although we have a good 60,000 sea miles between Cap’n Dave and Mate Mike (we will introduce the 4 man crew properly as the days progress) its best to give the boat a good set of batteries!

The long and the short of this is, they took 24 hours to fully charge up. So our departure has been set back a little. Hence our position may look as if we have been sat around drinking Rum Punches and snorkelling with the Island Girls. Irie. Spirits are up though and we are now leaving the dream like Sandy Cay behind us to port.

Anyway, it was back to Nanny Cay on Monday for more ‘Best Lemonades on dee Island’ from smiling Devon, and an evening swim. Swimming in the BVI is just peachy. Mike and Oscar scurried off when the big fish arrived though! Just incase you think we are having too much fun in the sun, there has been a lot of good work done on the yacht. Mike has prepared a few yachts for the Ocean and is teaching Anthony and Oscar lots.

With a cleaned compass, hanging baskets for fruit and veg and chaffed ropes now looking better and we have all settled in and are looking forward to our first night at sea. Bring it on as Led Zep said.

We all have a pretty good idea of the weather for the next few days from the GRIB files we download via our Iridium Satellite Phone.

OK – Lets Sail!
