December
Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour,
British Virgin Islands (BVI)
After a very uneventful passage we arrived in the
harbour at 1000 which was ideal to clear customs and immigration etc. We then
set off for Nanny Cay, an hours sail to make our number with Horizon Yacht
Charters. SSL goes into charter with them on January 3rd. (She has to earn her
keep). After some minor repairs we set of about mid-day for Norman Island and
tied up to a buoy. We had a very lively visit from Tony Newland-Ward who is the
RNSA BVI Local Officer who was moored close by. After supper we went to
Willy Tee's the local floating bar and cafe - some very odd female
behaviour, Terri will tell you all about it (she was fascinated).
Next day (Friday 29th December) we slipped and went
round to Privateer Bay (The Caves) where all except "Bad Back" David went
for a snorkel to explore in the caves. After a couple of hours we
slipped and started to head for The Baths, but you do get showers in the BVI and
we did get a mega one so we dived into Great Harbour, Peter Island and anchored.
Then after lunch we set of for Village Cay Marina, Road Town, and got
dumped on again just as we arrived. It's good here. We stayed for
party night which Oscar and Philippa did with great gusto while D & T
had a genteel time in the marina bar.
After the young had recovered their senses we had a
long sail beating to windward up to The Baths Sat 30th Dec' where all except
"Bad Back D" went ashore in our brand new dinghy to explore the boulders. After
which we sailed across to Trellis Bay and anchored close up to the small island
in the bay. A run ashore was enjoyed by all and after supper the young went off
partying to the small hours while D & T watched the world go by in cock
pit.
Sunday 31st December - D&T wedding anniversary
(41 years). A bit of partying and a dinner ashore (a bit of a disappointment),
however we made the most of a bad job and managed to celebrate to the small
hours.
New Years day we sailed to Cooper Island, had a
quiet time and all night in. We layed in a bit on the 2nd January, before
sailing back to Nanny Cay for the night.
0500 saw Philippa leaving for Beef Island Air Port
and 1130 saw David, Terri and Terri doing the same to fly home after our great
adventure!
