Day 6 - In the
Tropics
We have passed the line of the tropic of Cancer. Days are
hot. Nights a touch cool, but loosening clothes like a snake sheds its skin.
We were delighted to hear that our achievment in being the
first monohull over te line has been confirmed in the ARC website
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Yesterdays blog showed our repaired spinnaker flying in
all its glory. David spent 3 days sewing the damage using a whole large
reel of sailcloth thread. He had to push the needle through the reinforcing tape
with a sailmakers leather palm then pull the needle through with pliers for each
stitch.
Meals have been going well. Thanks to M&S - a tasty
tinned Chilli Con Carne last night was enjoyed by all. Sundowners included. This
morning we cooked up scrambled eggs to keep us winching not whining.
The crew entertained ideas of setting up a novelty restaurant back
home. Dining Atantic style : shots of sea swells on LCD screens around the
walls, a gently swaying floor, the chef harnessed on in foul weather gear as the
principle entertainment for the punters along with the theatre of orders being
shouted across the room for full sailing effect. The waiter sliding plates
across the table as the floor tilts. Do you buy it?
A rotten apple sparked a massive root through the stores
to make sure all food was still looking fresh. The whites of David's eyes
lit up like a pinball machine when he felt the slight dampness of the
cushions below the fruit baskets and thought that it could have been something
else. Something not worth thinking about!
The thirty somethings are about to have a game of Scrabble
- Thanks Tom. Only worried the magnetic pieces might effect the compass and send
us whizzing off on a course to Mauritania. Will let you
know.
