Another short motor sail and we arrived at beautiful Kata Beach and anchored close into the beach. There were still jet skiers and parasailers but not on the scale of Patong. The water was pristine and we could see the sandy bottom in 5 metres, so we enjoyed 2 days here. The beach was busy and the majority of the shoreline is taken up with a massive Club Med resort. I suggested to the kids that this would be a good spot to hire a sun lounge on the beach and get drinks and food delivered to you - they liked this idea and spent the afternoon on the beach drinking beers, cocktails and sharing a pizza (the cost per beach lounge was 100 baht - about $4).Sophie and Sam stayed at another hotel, this time for $50 a night and we all met up for dinner on the shore.

The next morning Dadang dropped me to the beach in the dinghy so I could go for a walk (something I really miss when we're on the boat). After a good hour and a half walk I started to wave to Greg and Dadang to come and pick me up - after 20 minutes of them not seeing me I decided to swim back to the boat - luckily it wasn't too far away and the current wasn't strong. I will be taking a radio or mobile with me next time! We caught a taxi into the major shopping centre in Phuket called Central so Elle and I could get some retail therapy and the boys went to the movies. Then we went to the nearby Weekend Market which was massive - lots of great local food including deep fried insects and bugs as well as cheap clothing, cosmetics, dvds, cds - you name it. It was pretty claustrophobic and hot so a couple of hours was enough. We ate some tasty food - fish cakes, bbq mushrooms wrapped with bacon, mango with sticky rice and Greg and Mitch had their usual share of deep fried pork.
