We left the marina early on Saturday morning, along with several other boats and superyachts - everyone was keen to get out and enjoy some sailing after being in the marina for Christmas celebrations. As we left the channel we encountered winds up to 40kts which made us wonder why we were going out at all - but luckily as we headed south the winds abated and we managed to sail about 10 miles downwind - very comfortable and quiet! We were following Storyteller (John and Sue) who were heading to Nai Yang beach for New Years. We arrived at Nai Harn Bay at about 4pm and found a great anchorage in about 10 metres next to Storyteller and Lady Kay) - we expected the bay to be much busier but were pleasantly surprised. The water was also nice and clean, but the wind was very strong. Greg and I slept in the cockpit during the night to ensure the anchor didn't drag and we had a crap, cold night, but it was a bit of fun - similar to camping. In the morning Greg and I went ashore for a big walk and to revisit where he had been about 13 years ago. We bought some beautiful mangoes, passionfruit and more bananas for breakfast and then we sailed north en route to Nai Yang Beach.
