Got out and about on Paxos today. Eventually left
boat where it was anchored in Gaios but only after we’d fended of a
French boat trying to get into the space next to us by playing dodgems. Took bikes out. For an island only 4k by10k we seem
to cycle forever with some really steep climbs, only to go down then straight
back up again….in the midday sun. After an hour we eventually got to the
highest point on the island which is 116m. Might not sound much, but when you
cycle up 30m to drop another 20m it’s a long climb. At the top, oddly
enough, they have located the only medical centre here. There is no
town/village there. I guess it’s a test to see if you really need medical
attention, or at least cut down on patient numbers by giving them a coronary by
trying to get there. On leaving the top we free-wheeled 1.5k steeply down hill
to the beach. The beach was pebbley and the water was the clearest
I’ve seen, like it was poured out of a tap onto white/yellow pebbles. You
see pictures of these scenes but I always thought they were digitally enhanced
as not real. Had a dip (well Andy did – I just got my toes wet) then back
to base via the taverna. Sat on waterfront watching the daytrippers who had
been ferried in from While out for dinner we spotted a Victor Meldrew
lookalikee but failed to capture it in a pic, However we were more successful
at capturing this lookalikee of a young Baldrick. Further to yesterday’s arrival of the baby blue
gin palace with blue uplighting, not to be outdone, Andy has been keenly
bidding on ebay for some pink downlighting for our boat. Guess if he doesn’t
win on ebay there will be a plentiful supply in Guess off tomorrow back to |
