Canakkale

Motor up the Dardanelles to Canakkale.. Current is a max of 3.5 knots against us and the ship traffic is heavy. We keep to the outside line of the North bound TSS system. Tankers in a procession about 1 mile apart.

Head into the town marina which is inexpensive (95TL) and quite secure, Depths at the dock are 2.7 metres.

Tuesday May 14

Take a bus tour of the Gallipoli battle fields. Very interesting history of a failed campaign with a huge number of casualties (500K) and deaths (120k). All the gains were made in the first 24 hrs and the remaining 9 months were pure hell.
