Motored to Polace in calm winds and flat seas. Polace is one of the
prettiest harbours we have seen yet. You enter a series of pools set off by
heavily forested islands. It is deep and boats are stern to the sides of the
various bays. At the end of the harbour is a small village and a good size
protected pond about 13 meters deep in the centre. By the evening there were
perhaps 30 boats comfortably at anchor and another dozen stern to the
shores. There was room for a few more at anchor and dozens more along the
shores.
Several restaurants have docks along the village front that are free to
their customers for the night. Stella Maris had been recommended to us and
we called ahead to Duro Dabelic +385 (0)20 744 059 who held space for us. It
was a too shallow for our rudder (2.2m) at dockside and we had to leave our
stern 3 metres from the dock and jump into the dinghy and out to get ashore.
We could have easily come bow in and had no problem. They have hold off
lines but no water or juice. We noticed several other restaurants further
west that had services (Bourbon, Calypso). Bourbon looked attractive +385 20 744169.
Had a very nice dinner at Stella - standard menu but very well cooked and
great service. They appear to get a lot of repeat business ($52pp)
Walked over to Pristaniste (4k) Thursday morning and took the ferry out to
Sv Marija. Beautiful pine forests and great outlooks over the sea water
lakes that form the Mljet National Park.
