You wait forever for one to come along then two come at once!
Yep we scored a double Marlin hit today, both rods went at the same time, the reels went buzzing and would not stop. Again we managed to slow the boat right down and Dick Miler and Andy Hunt got into reeling in their catch. These fish were not happy about being caught, they were launching themselves out the water and flying off in all directions. The guys would get them in closer to the boat then the fish would have none of it and shoot off again. While this was all going on a large squall was over head giving us all a fresh shower and keeping us cool, and we had an audience! Yep most of the day we've had a whale tracking us, I know this sounds ridiculous but we've had this whale keep turning up and seems to be playing in our bow wave. Every time we've put in or shaken a reef, it's been there hanging around the boat, strange. So during the Marlin fun this whale positioned itself about a boat length away from our stern and had a good look at what was going on, it didn't hang out for long but was very random.
Andy was the first to land his beast, just the most beautiful fish you've ever seen and probably around 8ft long, too heavy to lift out the water so unfortunately Andy did not get the money shot for future proof, but we were there and we all saw it!
All attention then turned to the now fishing ace, Dick Miller. His fish was equally beautiful but slightly smaller around 6ft and this one was caught on video! No great pictures to post unfortunately, everything was a bit frantic with 25knots of wind, a squall, two Blue Marlin and an inquisitive Whale! so the video will be posted at a later date. It's a good one so worth a look when we get it posted.
The rest of the day has been quite restful, all a bit drained from the mornings excitement. The sun popped out and after a little doze most of us are a little sun kissed. Looking forward to our Mahi Mahi dinner tonight, Andy is duty chef and has recruited Nic to assist. I quote from Andy, "Nic can you give me a hand tonight, as I don't have a clue what to do when cooking fish". I'm sure it's going to be delicious.
We are still flying along at around 9 knots, can't quite believe this wind is sticking with us, expected ETA is the 9th! It'll be the 10th at the very best. 1200nm to go.
So all in all a pretty great day on the water.
