Sunday 13 May 1800 UTC Bearing 082, speed 6 knots, under motor, wind ENE 5 knots, pressure 1023 steady, morale rising, distance to go 993 nautical miles Today, two major pieces of news aboard SY Apollonia: - Being Sunday, it is my assistant's day off, so I am acting as guest editor of the blog! - We have less than 1,000 miles to go! We passed the 1,000 miles to go mark this morning and celebrated in style with a bottle of cheap, corked cava. Classy! Don's sentiments "white wine just doesn't keep in the Caribbean" somewhat contrasted with Nico's "that's how it's supposed to taste". Mmm... The wind headed and died last night; Jamie and I admitted defeat at about 1am and started the engine. Fortunately this does bring with it many of life's luxuries - hot water, washing machine and toaster to name a few! I don't think that Jamie has yet realised that spending half the day down below in front of a laptop is helping his seasickness. I am hoping that his industrious laundry activities today will prevent him working that one out. Jamie has just broken his Kindle by placing it on the sofa and promptly falling on top of it. Idiot. Fortunately, there are a plethora of paper books for him to choose from - I personally have voted for him to read "What the HELL is he THINKING? All the questions you've ever asked about men answered", a book that came free with the Cosmopolitan, described, by itself, as "funny, intimate and wise…". Watch this space for a full review! As nothing is currently broken, Brett and Nico are dolphin watching (Nico secretly thinks that dolphins will somehow distract us from the fact that we haven't caught a fish for 2 days). Dad is conducting an audit of the drinks cabinet and Jamie is overseeing the laundry. "Apollonia-time" is currently still Caribbean time which is starting to get a bit ridiculous - the sky was light at 0350 this morning. A clock change is in order today I think. I attach two photos - one of the "SAGA boys" enjoying their breakfast and the other of Jamie doing the laundry. Love to all, Ian and the boys on board Apollonia x x x x |
